Resumo
Este artigo reúne informações, propostas e desafios acerca do projeto intitulado “Fundo Kayapó de Conservação Indígena”, sendo este proposto pelo Funbio e financiado pelo Fundo Amazônia e pela Conservação Internacional do Brasil. O objetivo da pesquisa é demonstrar de que forma o Fundo Kayapó, um fundo patrimonial, foi concebido, como opera e como fez para entrar em conformidade com as exigências feitas pelo Fundo Amazônia via BNDES. O estudo contribuirá, portanto, para a avaliação da eficácia do Fundo Amazônia, principalmente no que tange ao aporte financeiro a fundos patrimoniais ligados à prevenção do desmatamento da floresta amazônica. No caso do Fundo Kayapó, a preservação da floresta dar-se-á por meio de práticas sustentáveis aplicadas em determinadas comunidades indígenas Kayapó localizadas na região conhecida como “Arco do Desmatamento”.
Abstract
This article gathers information, proposals and challenges regarding the so-called “Kayapó Fund for Indigenous Conservation”, which was initially proposed by Funbio and financed by the Amazon Fund and the Conservation International in Brazil. The aim of this research is to indicate in what way the Kayapó Fund – established as an endowment fund – was initially designed, how it currently operates and how it came into compliance with the requirements created by the Amazon Fund through BNDES (The Brazilian Development Bank). This study will therefore contribute to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the Amazon Fund specially regarding to the financial support given to endowment funds related to deforestation prevention in the Amazon Rainforest. In the case of the Kayapó Fund, the forest preservation shall be accomplished through sustainable practices applied to certain indigenous Kayapó communities located in a region known as the “arc of deforestation ”.
